WoW: Improved media sockets boost media by a whopping 26 item levels

When patch 9.1 hits WoW's live servers, players will once again be able to work on unlocking more glory levels. Up to level 80 and all kinds of new bonuses are waiting to further improve the heroes of Azeroth. Among other things, you'll unlock improved media sockets in the process. This has been known for a while. However, the system wasn't fully implemented yet, so no one knew exactly what this improvement actually looked like. With the latest PTR build, however, the system has now arrived on the test server. And if you were expecting some exotic or fancy feature, you might be disappointed.

  • The improved media sockets improve the effect the medium has - comparable to 26 item levels,

In practice, this means that if you put a medium with item level 200 into an improved medium socket, the medium will officially remain at level 200, but the effect will be equivalent in strength to item level 226
.Of course, this also means that the maximum strength of the mediums, whose maximum item level will be raised to 252 in patch 9.1, will be boosted significantly. In practice, we can reach mediums whose strength is equivalent to item level 278, which will mean a massive increase in DpS.

However, it will take some time for players to have such strong mediums. Not only do the new ranks of mediums need to be captured first, but unlocking the upgraded medium sockets will also take some time. The first tier will be upgraded starting at fame level 61, and you'll even need to reach fame level 79 for the last tier of the third soul band.
